CFOx is a middle-market accounting and finance advisory firm serving private equity groups and founder-led businesses. Established in 2020 and built by ex-Big 4 professionals, we have completed more than 500 client engagements across 25-plus industries. 

We perform Quality of Earnings and financial diligence during a transaction and remain engaged after close as the CFO and accounting team responsible for translating the investment thesis into reported results. We are equally engaged outside of transactions, serving as CFO, controller, FP&A, or bookkeeper at the level each business requires. Mike is a Managing Director at CFOx. He is an ex-Big 4 CPA that has extensive experience servicing middle market clients with Transaction (M&A) and CFO services related engagements. He has extensive experience with all aspects relating to the financial due diligence process and company accounting & finance functions.

Since co-founding CFOx, Mike has worked on over 250 client engagements across numerous industries including: construction, manufacturing, HVAC, roofing, plumbing, environmental services, franchises, engineering & design services, audio entertainment, and commercial landscaping, among others. He is primarily focused on providing financial due diligence and strategic advisory services to the firm’s clients.

Prior to CFOx, Mike worked for CBIZ Private Equity Advisory in their Transaction Advisory Services group (FDD). He was primarily responsible for conducting and managing buy-side and sell-side financial due diligence (QoE) engagements for middle-market private equity firms and their operating companies. Prior to CBIZ, Mike worked for Price waterhouse Coopers (PwC) in both their Transaction Advisory and Audit Services groups for both public and private clients.

Mike earned an M.S. in Accounting from Walsh College and a B.A. in Economics from the Denison University.

Matt Alessi

Managing Director

Matt is a Managing Director at CFOx. He leverages his broad range of experience to help clients tackle their financial hurdles and build scalable businesses.

Since co-founding CFOx, Matt has worked on hundreds of client engagements across numerous industries, including manufacturing, healthcare, consumer goods, bioscience, construction, real estate, and hospitality. He focuses on providing fractional CFO, M&A support, financial analysis, and strategic advisory services to the firm’s clients.

Prior to CFOx, Matt worked for a private equity firm with over $1B in assets under management. He was responsible for analyzing new investment opportunities and supporting portfolio companies. Prior to working in private equity, Matt worked at a middle market investment banking firm where he supported sell-side transactions and capital raises across a wide range of industries. Matt also previously worked as a Project Manager for an automotive supplier where he gained valuable manufacturing and operations experience.

Matt earned an M.S. in Finance from Walsh College and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Michigan.

Walker Freeman, CPA

Walker is a Director at CFOx and leads the firm’s TS Services practice. He has 10+ years of Big 4 CPA experience serving clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to founder-owned SMEs and startups. He has extensive experience with all aspects related to company accounting & finance functions and specializes in advising clients as they contemplate, navigate, and execute on a proposed Transaction. He is primarily focused on providing financial due diligence and strategic advisory services to the firm’s clients.

Prior to CFOx, Walker spent six years with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in their Deals Advisory, Financial Due Diligence (FDD) group. He was primarily responsible for conducting and managing buy-side and sell-side transactions for public and privately owned companies of all sizes. While at PwC, Walker worked on over 50 engagements across various industries, including technology, retail, manufacturing, food and beverage, healthcare, veterinary medicine, aerospace and defense, and entertainment, among others. Prior to PwC, Walker spent four years with Deloitte in their Assurance group servicing both public and private clients.

Walker attended the University of Georgia and Georgia State University earning a Master’s degree in Accounting and Bachelor degrees in both Accounting and Finance.

Walker is a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with the State of Georgia and holds a reciprocal CPA license with the State of Massachusetts.

Abigail Remington, CPA

Abigail (Abby) is a Director at CFOx and leads the firm's CFO Services practice. She has 10+ years of accounting and finance experience, with a wealth of knowledge in financial management and strategic planning for a variety of companies. Her experience in auditing, consulting and internal roles includes industries such as banking and financial services, manufacturing, software, publishing, retail and industrial services. She is passionate about leveraging her skills and expertise to drive business growth and provide valuable insights that support informed decision-making.

Prior to CFOx, Abby was with Flagstar Bank ($120B total assets) and directed the FP&A team through mergers with NYCB and Signature Bank. She was primarily responsible for managing the strategic planning and budgeting process, as well as performing monthly forecasts to support earnings. She partnered directly with business leaders in Retail, Commercial and Investments to gather valuable financial metrics and insights that would lead to improved financial performance. She played an active role in several system conversions, including a large general ledger conversion. Abby worked with many private companies while at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in Assurance and supported additional clients with special accounting projects while at The Siegfried Group, with revenue ranging from $50M - $1B.

Abby attended the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, earning a Bachelor's in Business Administration and Master's in Accounting. She also serves as Treasurer on the Grosse Pointe Public Library Foundation board.

Brian LePine

Director, Accounting Services

Detroit

Brian is a Director at CFOx and leads the firm’s Accounting Services practice. He has over 8 years of accounting experience servicing middle market clients with Audit and Assurance related engagements.

Prior to CFOx, Brian spent five years with Richey May in their Assurance group. He was primarily responsible for conducting and managing audits, reviews and agreed-upon-procedure engagements for over 50 engagements. While at Richey May, Brian worked in their independent mortgage banking practice focusing on risk assessment, financial reporting, strategic advisory and regulatory compliance. Prior to Richey May, Brian spent 3 years with UHY LLP in their Assurance group. Brian worked on engagements across various industries including manufacturing, construction and not-for-profits.

Brian earned an M.S. in Accounting from Wayne State University and a B.A. in Accounting from Western Michigan University.

Brian is a registered Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with the State of Michigan.
